Sorting grades
Preamble
All products of our company are produced using Caucasian oak. The oak of the Caucasus is also known for its strength, density, hardness and weight, so it has such a huge scope of application. This kind of oak has excellent physical and mechanical characteristics, so it is used in construction as a building and ornamental material.
Each massive board is unique, has its own color variations, texture and structure, which cannot be completely transmitted by a separate drawing or pattern. A tree is a product created by nature itself, therefore such natural defects on a massive board, such as color difference, sapwood, knots and cracks cannot be completely excluded from this type of product. So, if we are talking about elite floors which are shown on our website so the sorting of wood doesn’t belong to the category of quality, but to aesthetic preferences.
Wood has a wide range of color shades from dark brown to yellow. Depending on the place of growth, the color may vary.
Grades
The company Dubove podlahy LLC determines three qualities of production: Select, Prime and Natural.
Select quality:
Select quality implies amazing look which is unachievable with other oak flooring grades. From each tree can be produced only 6-10% of select quality boards.
On boards are allowed: small knots < 5 mm, small color variation.
On boards aren’t allowed: sapwood, mechanical defects, cracks with dimensions > 1,5mm.
Sometimes is possible to find unfinished tongue and groove (doesn’t effect on installation).
Prime quality:
Prime quality boards concern to in between our “Select” and “Natural / Rustical”. Ideal choice for lovers of natural wood with its elegant design. Predominantly tangential cut.
Light knots up to 25 mm in size, dark knots up to 10 mm in size are allowed.
Sapwood is allowed on 15% of board area. Small cracks are allowed on end face of products.
Mechanical defects are allowed on not face side. Sometimes is possible to find unfinished tongue and groove (doesn’t effect on installation).
Mix rustikal/natural qualities:
Solid wood species well emphasize the selection of rustics. And in the first place here is the oak, which is not only durable and beautiful in its texture, but also traditional for our strip what is important in creating an interior in country style. Oak is a classic breed for rustic breeding. It excellently emphasizes the brutality and naturalness of rustic breeding.
In rustic quality are allowed healthy knots with any size, dead knots with maximal size of 50mm. Shrinkage cracks with width of not more than 3 mm. A single small wormhole is allowed. Sapwood is allowed. Several boards can have hit or miss after planning on face side.
Mechanical defects can appear on both sides. Sometimes is possible to find boards with unfinished working surface (less than 5mm) from each side what entails the absence of tongue or groove on sides.
Attention, mix of rustikal and natural qualities mostly consists of approximately 85% of natural quality boards and 15% of rustikal quality boards
